Who is responsible

Jabali Studio Ltd is the data controller. We are registered in Kenya and based in Nairobi. Our registered office is to be confirmed. Our registration with the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner is to be confirmed.

Write to partnerships@jabali.studio about anything on this page. A person reads that address.

What we collect, and why

Only what you type into the waitlist form. We do not buy data about you, and we do not take it from anywhere else.

Who you are
Your first and last name, the stage name you are credited as if you give one, your WhatsApp number, and your email address if you give one.To reach you with your invitation to register on 21 September, and to recognise you when you do.
Where you are
Your county. To decide which counties host Mtaani Sessions, and to invite you to the nearest one.
Your work
The roles you tick, such as performing artist, producer, songwriter or owner of sound recordings, and the titles of up to three works you name, with whatever you write about what you hold in each.To prepare the right registration for you, so the first works on your record are ready when it opens. Naming a work here does not register it and does not claim it for you.
How you arrived
A referral code if someone invited you, and a channel code in the link you followed. To credit the person who invited you, and to see which channels work.

We ask for a national identity number nowhere on this website. That happens later, on WhatsApp, when registration opens, and it is covered by a separate notice you will see at the time.

Why we are allowed to hold it

Your consent, which you give by ticking the first box on the form. We record which version of the wording you agreed to and when. The two boxes below it, for news and for an introduction to a collecting society, are separate and optional. Leaving them unticked does not affect your place on the list.

You can withdraw consent at any time, and withdrawing it is as easy as giving it. Email us and we will remove your record.

Who sees it

The Studio Mtaani pilot team at Jabali Studio Ltd, and the suppliers who run the systems it sits in, which today means our website host, our database host and the WhatsApp Business Platform we send your invitation through. Those suppliers act on our instructions and may not use your details for anything of their own.

If you tick the collecting society box, we introduce you to a licensed collective management organisation, and only then. We never sell your details. We never share them with a lender, a platform or a brand from the waitlist.

Some of these suppliers store data outside Kenya. Where they do, we require contractual protection that matches what the Data Protection Act requires.

How long we keep it

Waitlist records are kept for 24 months from the day you join, then deleted. If the pilot does not proceed, we delete them sooner. If you register on WhatsApp, your record moves into the pilot and a separate notice covers it from then on.

What this site does on your device

This website sets no advertising cookies and no tracking cookies. We count page views and how far people get through the form, using measurement that does not identify you and does not follow you to other websites.

While you are filling in the form, your answers are kept in your own browser so that a refresh or a dropped connection does not cost you the typing. That copy never leaves your device and your browser discards it when you close the tab. It is also cleared the moment you finish. The site loads no fonts, scripts or images from anyone else, so no third party sees that you visited.

Your rights

Under Kenya's Data Protection Act 2019 you hold the rights below. Ask by email and we answer within seven days.

To be informed
To know what we hold and why. This notice is that.
To access
To ask for a copy of everything we hold about you.
To correct
To have anything wrong or incomplete put right.
To delete
To have your record removed. We act on this within seven days.
To object
To stop us using your details, including for messages you agreed to receive.
To portability
To receive your details in a form you can take elsewhere.

If we get it wrong, you can complain to the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner at odpc.go.ke. We would rather you told us first, but you do not have to.

Children

The waitlist is for people aged 18 and over. If you tell us you are younger, or we learn that you are, we delete the record.

Changes

If we change how we use your details, we update this page and change the date at the top. If the change is significant, we tell you on WhatsApp before it takes effect.
